Why the Best Tools Cost Nothing
Paid software has a business model. That model is not "help you." It is "keep you subscribed."
Free tools have a different pressure. They have to be good enough that you come back on your own. No dark patterns. No cancellation flows. No "are you sure you want to leave?" screens.
That is a harder standard. And it produces better tools.
THE CATCH
Free tools can disappear. Get acquired. Add a paywall. We have all been there — a tool you relied on for three years suddenly wants $12 a month.
The fix is simple: own the file. If the tool outputs something you can keep — a JSON, a PDF, an HTML file — you are safe. The tool can die. Your output lives.
WHAT WE BUILD
Every zzOwn tool outputs a file or runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is stored on our servers. Nothing requires an account. If we shut down tomorrow, the tool still works from your downloads folder.
Free is not a pricing strategy. It is a design constraint. It forces you to build something that actually works.
